“I believe that white progressives cause the most daily damage to people of color. I define a white progressive as any white person who thinks he or she is not racist, or is less racist, or in the “choir,” or already “gets it.” White progressives can be the most difficult for people of color because, to the degree that we think we have arrived, we will put our energy into making sure that others see us as having arrived. None of our energy will go into what we need to be doing for the rest of our lives: engaging in ongoing self-awareness, continuing education, relationship building, and actual antiracist practice. White progressives do indeed uphold and perpetrate racism, but our defensiveness and certitude make it virtually impossible to explain to us how we do so.”
 Dr Robin DiAngelo

Change happens when those who serve as agents of transformation understand the foundations of race and racism. Racism was done and it can be undone through effective community, individual and institutional change.
El cambio ocurre cuando aquellas personas que sirven como agentes de trasnformación
comprenden los fundamentos de la raza y el racismo. El racismo se ha hecho y se puede deshacer mediante una comunidad efectiva y un cambio individual e institucional.

workhsop description

DESCRIPCIÓN DEL TALLER

This workshop is designed to challenge and empower people to "undo" the racist structures that hinder effective social change. The training is based on the premise that racism has been systematically erected and that is can be "undone" if people understand where it comes from, how it functions and why it is perpetuated.

Carlin Quinn, LMFT (She/Her) is the Founder and Director of Education For Racial Equity. She is also a psychotherapist, equity coach, facilitator and anti-racist co- conspirator.  Her equity work began when she entered the field of psychotherapy and realized that whiteness was foundational to the field of mental health, its theories, and its treatments.  She began teaching and consulting within the mental health community, developing an understanding of the impact of systemic oppression and intersectionality to western psychology.  In her private practice she specializes in complex trauma and cross racial relationships. In her facilitation and coaching work, Carlin uses a combination of critical race theory, psychodynamic theory and humanistic relational approaches to help unearth and address the complexities of whiteness, white supremacy and racial trauma in our daily human interactions.  She is grateful for the many people who have come before her in this work and, specifically, for the people of color who have continued to challenge her through fierce and loving accountability.

Carlin is also a community organizer and global activist who focuses on bringing intersectional system change to the forefront of the organizations and institutions she works with. She wishes to be a part of creating future communities and cultures that are rooted in equity, compassion and non-violence. Carlin is a lover of the earth, a singer of song, and she spends quite a bit of time listening to the non-human world for insights and guidance. Navigating Trauma and Grief
  - 06/05/2020 - 17H00
From Ubuntu  Perspective - I am because we are

LINK: https://zoom.us/j/97416712535

Trauma is both individual and a collective experience. This process is to investigate how these entailed traumas live inside each of us, and to come together to consciously work on healing our collective traumas - both the crisis we currently face and the traumas inherited from generations past.

Times of stress predictably trigger previous trauma and old ingrained coping strategies; our habitual ways of living are being disrupted, which triggers a lot of stress and fear.  Even before the global pandemic, we were living with the effects of unrecognised collective trauma, including systemic problems such as racial and economic injustice, and even climate crisis. Now due to the global pandemic, collective trauma is more evident  - our challenge is to be still enough to dive into our grief and process it, creating a possibility to turn this moment of crisis into an evolutionary opportunity.

Connecting with Our Ancestors - 14/05/2020 - 17H00

From Ubuntu Perspective - I am because we are

LINK:https://zoom.us/j/96012493150
Ancestral communication has been an ancient practice in every wisdom tradition throughout time. Communities are built around the dreams of the old ancestors and visions of the future ancestors. It is also firmly believed that our ancestors live within us in a form of our DNA, their dreams, memories and traumas are stored within us. We are never alone or seperated. In Africa today the Indigenous teachings of connecting and healing with our ancestors still plays a vital role in the growth of an individual and society at large. We will create a sacred space process  based on the principles of Ubuntu for those who wish to journey into a deeper understanding  in a gentle and loving way.

The Importance of Ritual - 20/05/2020 - 17H00
From Ubuntu Perspective - I am because we are
LINK:
https://zoom.us/j/92517268549

The act of ritual is a common thread that has linked humanity throughout the ages, regardless of ethnicity, culture or religion. Rituals motivate and move us. Through ritual we build families and community, we make transitions and mark important events in our lives, we express ourselves in joy and sorrow, and perhaps, most importantly, we create and sustain identity. People engage in rituals with the intention of achieving a wide set of desired outcomes, from reducing their anxiety to boosting their confidence, alleviating their grief to performing well in a competition – or even making it rain. Recent research suggests that rituals may be more rational than they appear. Why? Because even simple rituals can be extremely effective. While some may dismiss the practice as old fashioned, the act of ritual is an essential part of the human condition that remains with us today, simply, because it seems to work. What’s more, rituals appear to benefit even people who claim not to believe that rituals work. We will explore why ritual is important and what are the vital stages in a person's life that need ritual and share examples.

Social Networks, Communities and Ecovillages are integral to creating a just and beautiful world.  However, some of the same social patterns of inequality also appear within these movements. A global array of experienced facilitators and guest speakers will be joining us once a month for deep discussions and education on this topic.  A sacred space webinar will also be held once per month to hold our grief and healing on social justice.
